What was the first thing you thought of when you saw the bright poster posted around campus? Was it, “Oh man, another theater performance, I won’t go to.” That’s what we thought at first, but seemingly we don’t think we will ever say that again. Ramona’s theater program sure knows how to put on a performance, especially one with religious verses. So next time you see one of those posters around school, grab a hold of the chance of seeing, hearing and feeling one of these stunning acts. We had a conversation with the main lead, Erwin Merida, who played the role of Jesus. He had a lot of interesting points we thought we’d share.

“How are you doing?”

Erwin: “I’m doing fan-diddly-tastic.”

“What encouraged you to join theater?”

Erwin: “What encouraged me to join theater? Okay so there was this hole in Seussical Musical, I was never interested in theater, and some guy was like, ‘You should fill the hole!’ and I was like nah I don’t want to join theater. Then he pushed me to Ward’s room, I joined and the rest is history.”

“How does having the lead role influence your position in theater?”

Erwin: “I don’t really think of it as the lead role, I just think about it as you know we’re all one cast and we’re all trying to create this beautiful story together.”

“Do you have anything to say to those who are wanting to join theater, a musical, play, etc.?”

Erwin: “Do it. Just do it.”

Our theater program is doing fantastic this year, putting sweat and tears into every production. Come see what they’re displaying next, In the Heights on May 18, 19 and 20. Go out and support our school! #RAMPride
